Grace Period for Overdue Spot Fines

Grace Period for Overdue Spot Fines

Road Users with overdue Spot Fines are hereby informed that they have seven (7) days grace period to settle their outstanding fines. The grace period starts tomorrow Saturday May 30, 2020 to Friday June 05, 2020.

During the Lockdown which was imposed by the COVID-19 Pandemic, road users were issued Spot Fines for having violated provisions of the Road Traffic Act 1981 and Associated Regulations. These fines are by law to be paid within 7 days from date of issue; however, many road users failed to adhere to the timelines due to the lockdown hence the grace period.

All other road users who received Spot Fines prior to the Lockdown will fortunately also benefit from the grace period, so it is important for them to pay within the above stipulated timelines.

After June 05, 2020 anyone with pending Spot Fine or newly issued Spot Fine, who may have not settled within the 7 days of issuance, is an offender and legal action shall be taken against them.

Meanwhile, Spot Fines can be paid at various pay points which are LRA Banking hall in Maseru only, Traffic Offices in Leribe and Mohale’s Hoek and Sub-Accountancies at all other districts (Berea, Butha-Buthe, Mokhotlong, Thaba-Tseka, Qacha’s Nek, Quthing and Mafeteng) during the week.

Road Users can now also pay Spot Fine at their convenience, via Ecocash. To pay the Spot Fine one follows 4 easy steps as follows:
1. Dial *130*773#
2. Enter Spot Fine Number
3. Confirm Spot fine Number, Select 1 to pay
4. Enter Ecocash Pin, press ok.

The electronic Spot Fine was built by Engidata and sponsored by Road Fund. The end users are the LMPS and DTT Traffic Officers.
