Road Fund CEO Participates at the ARMFA EXCO Meeting

The Road Fund Chief Executive Officer Mr. Nkekeletse Makara has participated in the African Roads Maintenance Funds Association (ARMFA) Executive Committee Meeting hosted by the Zanzibar Road Fund from October 04 to 06, 2021.

The purpose of the meeting was for the Executive Committees of ARMFA from the four regions of Africa to meet and keep abreast with developments in the funding of roads sector, and for the regional representatives to report on progress in the regional bodies which are affiliates of ARMFA.

Members also discussed the financial status of the Association, looking at status of bank accounts and membership fees due to the Association. The issue of recruiting new members would also be addressed, as the intention is that all African countries should be members of ARMFA.

The meeting further assessed the need to review the ARMFA Strategic Plan; as well as to develop an Annual Operational Plan and associated budget for the Association for the next twelve months.

To ensure a coordinated management of ARMFA, member countries have been clustered into four Regional Focal Groups that include the Central African Focal Group; the East African Focal Group; the Southern African Focal Group and the West African Focal Group. Mr. Makara represented the Southern African Focal Group, in his capacity as the Vice Chairperson.

ARMFA is a non-profit making and non-political association that was founded in the year 2003 in Libreville, Gabon. The aim is to form a platform and a network for experience and information sharing on best road maintenance practices in Africa; to discuss and find opportunities on funding options and to promote and strengthen links between members of African Road Funds.
