Zambia Hosts Handing over of Road Funds Regional Reigns

The National Road Fund Agency (NRFA) of Zambia hosted a ceremony to hand over Road Funds regional reigns to the incoming Chairperson and Vice Chairperson of the ARMFA Southern African Focal Group (ASAFG), at their offices in Lusaka, Zambia on Friday April 30, 2021.

This follows the ASAFG virtual meeting held on March 30, 2021 where Mozambique Road Fund CEO Prof. Angelo Macuacua was elected new Chairperson of ASAFG, while Mr. Nkekeletse Makara CEO Lesotho Road Fund was elected Vice Chairperson.

In his remarks, the outgoing ASAFG Chairperson NRFA CEO Mr. Wallace Mumba expressed his happiness to have served the region for almost three years, for NRFA benefited a lot in the whole experience.

“We were able to host several regional meetings and exchange learning programmes with our counterparts. We also recruited a new member which is Angola to the group, I believe the incoming leadership will strive to do an even better job than we did,” he added.

Oh his part the incoming ASAFG Chairperson Prof. Macuacua said Zambia has been the strongest link for the regional body over the years, through a democratic and participatory leadership that made it easy for enhanced collaboration amongst the Road Funds in the region.

Prof. Macuacua, who has been the Vice Chairperson under Zambia also handed over the baton to Mr. Makara as the new Vice Chairperson.

In his remarks Mr. Makara said Road Funds in the region have similar working arrangements thereby yielding similar results and challenges.

He expressed his commitment to work together with members of ASAFG, saying this was the time for Road Funds to be recognized for the critical role they play in collection and disbursement of funds for road maintenance by entrusted Road Agencies.

The handing over ceremony was attended by Zambia as host and outgoing ASAFG Secretariat and Mozambique and Lesotho delegations as incoming ASAFG leadership.
