The Road Fund Secretariat has recently organized a one- day staff retreat, which according to the experts, is a perfect opportunity to take a step back from the day-to-day work, spend some time thinking about the bigger picture; it is a time to rejuvenate the team, get everyone excited around a united mission, set goals and build bonds between team members.
Officiating the retreat, the Road Fund Chief Executive Officer Mr. Nkekeletse Makara encouraged staff members to treasure such sessions and asked them to feel comfortable contributing their ideas as Managers do their presentations, even if they work in another department.
He also requested the employees to know and understand the Vision and Strategic Statement (Mission) of the Fund because they are the most important stakeholders and ambassadors of the Secretariat’s brand; and they can only perform to the best of their ability when they understand the mandate in line with the policy statements.
“This session is meant to offer a chance for us as team members to develop stronger bonds amongst us, stronger and stable work relationships between us boost the efficiency and work productivity of the Fund as well”, he reiterated.
Mr. Makara further encouraged the employees to adopt team spirit because it is best, adding that team spirit is crucial to a work environment as the stronger the team; the stronger the organization. He said a strong team spirit amongst colleagues will further boost motivation and will enable colleagues to feel a part of a team.
The Secretariat’s Management Team took turns to present functions of their various departments and these comprise Compliance, Engineering, Finance, Human Resources and Administration, Information Communications Technology, Internal Audit and Public Relations.
When closing the retreat, the CEO expressed hope that the employees understood the mandate of the Fund and how they fit in ensuring execution of same. He requested them to create awareness about the Fund, thereby improving the Fund’s corporate image.
At the end of the retreat, Road Fund staff confirmed that the session was useful in boosting their confidence levels as employees of the Fund, especially in becoming confident and determined in carrying out the functions of the Fund.
