Road Funds Convene to tackle Financing Initiatives for Sustainable Road Maintenance

The Road Fund Lesotho team, led by the Chief Executive Officer Mr. Nkekeletse Makara, will join the regional counterparts during a three day Southern Africa Focal Group Meeting hosted by the Road Fund in Maputo, Mozambique from December 02 to 04, 2021.

The purpose of the meeting is to keep abreast with developments in the funding of roads sector, and to jointly celebrate milestones as well as tackle challenges that Road Funds in the region encounter, including jointly devising possible solutions to the challenges.

At the meeting, all member countries are expected to make presentations on the pre-determined theme of “New initiatives for financing road infrastructures construction and maintenance”. Member countries that are expected to participate and tackle this theme along with Road Fund Lesotho include the host Mozambique, Angola, Namibia, Malawi, Comoros, Zambia and Zimbabwe.

The meeting is convened by the mother body known as the African Roads Maintenance Funds Association (ARMFA) through its Southern Africa arm ASAFG (ARMFA Southern Africa Focal Group).

The ASAFG meeting is hosted twice a year and it rotates amongst members. It prepares for the Annual General Meeting where all Road Funds in Africa convene. The last ASAFG meeting was hosted by Road Fund in Zambia.

ARMFA is a non-profit making and non-political association that was founded in the year 2003 in Libreville, Gabon. The aim is to form a platform and a network for experience and information sharing on best road maintenance practices in Africa; to discuss and find opportunities on funding options and to promote and strengthen links between members of African Road Funds.
