As part of its 30th-anniversary celebrations, the Road Fund has extended its legacy of service beyond the development and maintenance of road infrastructure by donating a Legal Aid Clinic to the National University of Lesotho (NUL) Faculty of Law.
The initiative, undertaken through the Road Fund’s Corporate Social Responsibility programme, reflects the broader commitment to contributing to national development and making a meaningful difference in the lives of Basotho.
While the Road Fund’s core mandate is centred on the financing of road infrastructure, the donation demonstrates its recognition of the important role that education, youth empowerment and community service play in building a stronger and more inclusive Lesotho.
The Legal Aid Clinic is expected to provide law students with an important platform to complement their classroom learning with practical experience. Through exposure to real-life legal matters, students will have an opportunity to develop their professional skills, deepen their understanding of legal practice and gain valuable experience in serving members of the community.
Beyond its academic value, the initiative has the potential to bring meaningful assistance to communities that may require access to legal information and support. By creating a link between legal education and community service, the Legal Aid Clinic will enable students to put their knowledge into practice while contributing to the protection and promotion of access to justice.
The donation therefore represents more than a contribution to an academic institution. It is an investment in the next generation of legal professionals and in the communities they will ultimately serve. It also reinforces the importance of partnerships between institutions and organisations in addressing broader national development needs.
The Road Fund’s 30th anniversary provided an opportunity not only to reflect on three decades of contribution to Lesotho’s road infrastructure, but also to look towards the future and identify ways in which its legacy can continue to benefit society.
Through the donation of the Legal Aid Clinic, the Road Fund has demonstrated that its anniversary celebrations are not merely about commemorating the past, but also about creating lasting value for future generations. The initiative stands as a testament to the Fund’s commitment to compassion, social responsibility and nation-building, leaving an enduring legacy that extends well beyond the roads it has helped finance.
