Road Fund Sponsors Roadside Vehicle Inspection Campaign

The Roadside Vehicle Inspection Campaign which is planned and executed by the Road Safety Department in collaboration with its stakeholders has kicked off on Monday August 26, 2019 in the Maseru district.

The Campaign, which is sponsored by Road Fund to a tune of M300,000.00, will then proceed to the other 10 districts of the country in subsequent weeks. It is staggered over a period of six months.

The purpose of the campaign is to encourage Basotho to use roadworthy vehicles thereby ensuring that road users are safe at all times.

At the end of the campaign, the expectation will be for the number of roadworthy vehicles to have increased.

The Road Safety stakeholders from the three regions of the country recently convened to finalize preparations for the campaign. At the end of the meeting, they had agreed on the approach to the campaign, tasks and responsibilities of various stakeholders as well as the schedule to cover all districts.

Stakeholders to take part in the campaign include the Department of Traffic and Transport, the Lesotho Mounted Police Services represented by Traffic Police Officers and Fire Brigade, Military Police, Road Fund and the Magistrate Court.

The campaign is held annually, with the sole intention of creating awareness about the importance of using roadworthy vehicles, as another strategy to enhance road user safety in the country’s roads.
