The Road Fund Management has held a meeting with the Lesotho Mounted Police Service (LMPS) Traffic Police Management for Maseru Urban and Rural, to strengthen collaboration on the Electronic Spot Fine (eSpot Fine) System.
The meeting focused on assessing progress since the LMPS transitioned from the manual Spot Fine system to the electronic system, which uses devices and computers for administration, with sponsorship from the Road Fund.
In his opening remarks, the Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Operations Mochekoane Nchela welcomed the engagement and emphasised the importance of continued collaboration between the Road Fund and LMPS in addressing operational challenges and ensuring that the eSpot Fine System performs effectively. He underscored the need for commitment and accountability among officers using the system to enhance compliance and promote road safety.
The Road Fund Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Mrs. ‘Matšepang Sekhokoane indicated that the Road Fund is entrusted with collecting road user charges through various streams. She emphasised that road traffic offences addressed through Spot Fines must be effectively managed, not only to ensure timely collection of funds, but also to contribute to saving lives, restoring order and promoting compliance with the country’s traffic laws.
She urged all to take responsibility for improving the performance of the eSpot Fine System, further stressing the importance of strong cooperation, regular monitoring, refresher engagements and proper care of the gadgets to ensure that the system achieves its intended purpose.
Both organisations reaffirmed their commitment to ensuring that the eSpot Fine System operates efficiently, strengthens traffic law enforcement and improves service delivery to the public. The engagement began in the Northern Region and will continue in the Southern Region to ensure that all relevant LMPS officers are reached.
