The Road Fund Chief Executive Officer Mrs. ‘Matšepang Sekhokoane will lead the Road Fund delegation to a three-day Southern Africa Focal Group Meeting hosted by the Zimbabwe National Road Administration (ZINARA) in Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe from October 28 to 30, 2024.

The Meeting will be convened under the Road Funds mother body known as African Roads Maintenance Funds Association (ARMFA) through its Southern Africa arm known as ASAFG (ARMFA Southern Africa Focal Group).

The purpose of the meeting is for Road Funds in the region to discuss sustainable maintenance of roads  and to keep abreast with developments in the funding of the road sector, to jointly celebrate milestones as well as tackle challenges that Road Funds in the region encounter, including jointly devising possible solutions to the challenges.

The meeting is convened under the theme “The relationship of Road Funds and Road Agencies in maintenance of Roads in Southern Africa, where member countries from Angola, Lesotho, Malawi, Mozambique, Namibia and Zimbabwe are expected to present their country situations on this pre-determined theme.

Other topics to be discussed at the ASAFG meeting include strengthening relations with Road Implementing Agencies to ensure well maintained roads, reviewing progress on the ASAFG Action Plan 2024 to 2026 as well as the innovative and sustainable ways of funding roads in the region.

The ASAFG meeting is hosted at least twice a year and it rotates amongst member countries. It is a platform for collaboration and concerted efforts amongst members  for improvement of the regional road network and ultimately the African road network. The last ASAFG meeting was hosted by the Road Fund in Malawi.
