Private Sector in Lesotho has been commended for finding it prudent to sponsor the Road Safety Christmas and New Year Campaign.
Speaking at the ceremony to launch the Campaign held at Ha Foso in Maseru on Tuesday December 11, 2019 Road Fund Chief Executive Officer Mr. Nkekeletse Makara said that Private Sector is critical in reducing and ultimately eliminating fatalities on the roads.
He emphasized that the Road Safety Department on its own can never succeed as success of the campaigns depend on all stakeholders coming together to join hands in dealing with safety on the roads.
“As Road Fund, we pledge continued support of such initiatives. We are happy that the Department has just embarked on a journey to develop their strategic plan, the initiative is commendable and we will support you until the document is finalized and is ready for implementation,” he added.
He said the strategic plan is important because it provides a sense of direction and outlines measurable goals, adding that the Department will therefore be able to access, among others, the impact of the campaigns based on the goals they set for themselves.
He concluded by saying that when the impact is visible Road Fund would not hesitate to increase funding for these campaigns, because the results would then be evident to everyone.
As part of its mandate, which is to promote road user safety programmes, Road Fund has sponsored the Road Safety Department to undertake the Annual Christmas and New Year Campaign, to a tune of over M1 Million.
The Campaign will run in the three regions of the country from December 12, 2019 to January 10, 2020.
