Principals from various organizations forming a joint team that operates on the Mobile Court Unit of the Magistrate Court were briefed about the performance of the Court for the pilot period of July 01, 2020 to July 31, 2020.
The Principals were from Magistrate Court, Law Office, Lesotho Defence Force, Lesotho Mounted Police Service, Department of Traffic and Transport, Road Safety Department as well as Road Fund.
They heard that countrywide a total of 1,331 cases appeared before the Magistrate at the Mobile Court, 2,374 Spot Fines were issued while 259 overdue Spot Fines were found and duly paid.
The team said top offences during the campaign included, but were not limited to: Failure to produce driver’s license, Permits offences, Failure to display clearance certificates, Failure to display number plates, Number Plates not issues by Registering Authority as well as Unregistered vehicles.
The team also tabled detailed findings, challenges as well as recommendations to the Principals.
In their various speeches, the Principals acknowledged the report and commended the team for working so hard in all districts during the pilot phase.
The Mobile Court was handed over from Road Fund to the Ministry of Justice, Law and Constitutional Affairs and Human Rights on June 30, 2020 and immediately commenced the pilot campaign on July 01, 2020.
