Management Assesses Progress on MCC Road Infrastructure Project

The Road Fund Management Team, in collaboration with Officials from the Maseru City Council (MCC), have recently conducted a site visit to assess progress on a road infrastructure project funded by the Road Fund and implemented by MCC.

The project is entitled “Design and Build for the Upgrading of Lekhalong to Matamong Road via Ratjomose and Rehabilitation of Matamong to Thetsane Industrial Road” and is currently underway.

Speaking during the tour, the Road Fund Chief Executive Officer Mrs. Matšepang Sekhokoane emphasised the importance of monitoring projects to ensure value for money. She noted that such assessments allow the Road Fund to track financial performance, evaluate the quality of work delivered and to understand challenges encountered during implementation.

Providing a progress update, Mr. Thato Pheko of Innovative Construction Consultants, the firm appointed to provide professional consultancy services for the project, reported that approximately 40 percent of the work has been completed in line with the approved road design.

He indicated that road designs, relocation of service and excavations activities are at different stages of completion, adding that significant progress could have been achieved if service providers adhered to road corridors principles.

However, the Project Manager Mr. Ikarabelle Sello, acknowledged that the project is facing several challenges that could potentially affect the completion timeline. These

include relocation resistance from some community members in areas where the road corridor is narrow, as well as the temporary relocation of electricity lines, telecommunications infrastructure and water pipelines.

The Maseru City Council Acting Town Clerk, Mr. ’Moea Makhakhe assured the Road Fund Management that efforts are underway to address these challenges and expressed optimism that significant progress would be achieved in the coming months.

The project is sponsored by the Road Fund and implemented by MCC. MCC has engaged TIM-RAT Joint Venture to carry out Construction works under the supervision of Innovative Construction Consultants.
