Members of the Board of Directors, and the Chief Executive Officer Mrs. ‘Matšepang Sekhokoane, have completed a tour of the projects sponsored by the Road Fund and implemented by two Road Implementing Agencies namely the Roads Directorate and Maseru City Council. The tour commenced on Monday June 02 to 05, 2025.
The aim of the tour was for the members of the Board to view progress on the ground following their approval of the annual budget for the road maintenance programmes; to appreciate the financial performance thereof in relation to the quality of work done and to also comprehend the challenges that the Agencies faced during implementation, including the proposed solutions to those challenges.
Among successful projects visited include the maintenance and repair of the A1 Road from ‘Malesaoana to Butha-Buthe Circle. This project, which is being implemented by the Roads Directorate has to date cost the Road Fund a sum of M214, 335, 014.78.
Another success story relates to the emergency repair of Peka major culvert crossing Sekutukutu river on the A1 to B11 Road. This project, still implemented by the Roads Directorate, has cost the Road Fund an amount of M11, 799, 250.83.
The rehabilitation and construction of two curves at Bolahla critical sections along the A4 Road, between Patlong and Seapa Villages in the Qacha’s nek district was visited and has also been successfully executed. This project has cost the Road Fund a sum of M20, 779,557.82.
Around the Maseru City, the various reconstruction and rehabilitation of street lighting projects sponsored by the Road Fund were visited and appreciated; these projects have solved a lot of social problems that are normally associated with darkness.
In relation to the challenges, the Board realised that some projects were not well planned and executed, sometimes due to Road Agencies’ desire to maintain a lot of roads with limited funds and within limited time so as to enhance the mobility of road users, especially within the Maseru city. To the challenges, solutions are being derived and will be concretised in subsequent encounters with the Agencies.
The tour also extended to the ongoing projects such as repair and resealing of the A3 Road from Masianokeng (Mazenod Intersection) to St Micheal’s, and the St. Micheals to Roma Road which are being implemented by the Road Directorate.
This was the second annual tour which was joined by senior officials of the Road Fund, Roads Directorate and Maseru City Council accordingly.
